Salma Hayek is about to take over the world - and we don't say that just because she's a movie star and has been busy making babies with her billionaire husband, stealing the spotlight at 30 Rock, and rocking magazine covers (she's this month's InStyle cover girl). You'd think that would be enough to get anyone to take a break, but not our Salma. She's about to add the title of cosmetics magnate to her resume.

There are many reasons why herbs work, and the main reasons have a lot to do with historical use. The Chinese have been using herbs like ginkgo for thousands of years to stimulate mental alertness. In other parts of the world like Greece, people utilized the herb Queen Anne’s lace as a contraceptive. On the other hand, the Native Americans have been employing the herb Echinacea to combat infections for hundreds of years. If people around the world have been using herbs for medicinal purposes for a very long time, why can’t we benefit from these herbs ourselves? It only makes sense that they are safe and effective to use. In fact, remember that up to 25 percent of concentional prescription drugs sold in pharmacies still come from plants, whether directly or indirectly. You might be surprised to know that Aspirin actually derives from the herb willow bark.

marmenor.jpgWhat's better than a trip to a spa? How about a trip to a spa in Spain? I was lucky enough to be invited to visit the Intercontinental Mar Menor resort in Murcia at the end of last year, where I experienced a bit of winter sunshine while trying out the treatments at the top-class on site ESPA spa. Well, it beats Zara's bootcamp experience, doesn't it?!

Skin products for hands come in many shapes and sizes and are made by countless companies around the world. You will find, as with many things in life, that some of these products work wonders while others fail to deliver. The trick is in finding the right skin products for hands at the right stage in your life and the evolution of your hands.

As we age, the demands of our hands changes. So, as it would seem, does the general conditions of our hands. Of course our hands are not only impacted by age but also by other things such as our environment, lifestyle, exposure of hands to the elements, and the types of elements our hands are exposed to. The good news is that there are skin care products that work wonders for almost every condition coupled with a wide range of skin types and needs according to ages and stages in life.

One of the most commonly under utilized skin products for hands is Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. This product has been around for well over 100 years and continues to be one of, if not the best products on the market, for healing dry, cracked hands. Soak hands in warm water for a couple of minutes (warm, not hot). Then you need to coat your hands in a thin layer of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. Once this is done, put on a pair of thin white cotton gloves and leave them on overnight as your sleep. When you wake your hands should be soft and well moisturized. It’s an inexpensive method of treatment that has worked wonders at warding off the signs of aging from taking over the skin on and around your hands.

If you, like many, cannot get past the greasy feel of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly there are other potions and lotions that are effective in their anti aging efforts for your hands. They just aren’t as immediately effective and may take regular and frequent applications over several days or even weeks before you begin to notice results that last for any length of time. That being said, real and lasting results can be achieved with many products you can find online and in your local drug or department store.

When you are buying skin products for the hand make sure that they offer sun protection of some sort or keep a high SPF sun screen with you at all times for an added layer of protection for your hands.

The hands are a sensitive area for those who are waging war against the signs of age. The face is often the priority of women, and many men, who are fighting this particular fight but the face is only one battle. In order to win the war you must remove the signs of aging from your hands, feet, and the rest of your skin as well. You can win this war no matter what your budget for skin products may be.

When it comes to skincare, Allure will give pretty much anything a fair shake. Electrical pulses, deep sea algae, thermal volcano water—you name it, we'll investigate it. But I'm going to draw the line at the Japanese horse placenta drink I spotted on metafilter.com. At 5000 yen—about $57 a bottle—it claims to whiten and moisturize skin, promote tissue metabolism function (?), activate regenerative cell growth, and promote skin respiration (again, ?). Plus, the website says there's no "overt odor" so it's "easy to drink—in spite of those, oh, 30,000 milligrams of 100 percent undiluted horse-origin placenta. It also says that the placenta is harvested "while the afterbirth is still potent." Maybe the anti-aging gods will strike me down, and horse placenta will be the biggest thing since Botox, but I have one word: never.

When it comes to body washes, I've never really been passionate about a particular cleanser and generally treated my showering process as simply going through the motions. Lather, rinse, repeat. All this changed when I tried Ahava's new Mineral Botanic Skin Friendly Cream Washes. They're paraben-free and are packed with high concentrations of oils (macadamia and sunflower) and minerals from the Dead Sea. I alternate between the water lily and guarana one and the pansy and bamboo wash, and I'm obsessed with the milky texture and how silky-soft it leaves my skin. I can even skip my usual body lotion after stepping out. The scents of both are all natural but still don't have that strong, earthy smell that some eco-friendly products have. It has transformed my shower time, and I've even caught myself lathering, rinsing and REPEATING. You guys should check them out! I heard that Ahava's spokeswoman, Kristin Davis, loves the hibiscus and fig one. MB_7bottles.jpg

Our first name is an important part of our personality Choosing one for our unborn baby becomes a major task
The influence that our name has on our social and private life has been a topic for the French psychologist Nicolas Gueguen Here's what he thinks about it:
Short first names are much easier and simple to remember People with such names have good social relationships they are rarely lonely and they're very popular
